Mecklenburg County Warrant Search: Check for a Warrant in Charlotte and Arrange Bail First

Mecklenburg County is one of the few North Carolina counties with online warrant lookups, which is why so many people search for “charmeck warrant inquiry” or “CMPD warrant search.” Two different agencies hold the records. This page explains which tool answers which question, and how to arrange a bond before surrender so a warrant does not turn into a night at the jail on Fourth Street.

Step 1: Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office warrant inquiry

The Sheriff’s Office serves warrants countywide and publishes an online mecklenburg county warrant inquiry. It’s the primary place for an active mecklenburg county warrants check.

    1. Open the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office warrant inquiry.

    2. Search by last name and first name. Date of birth narrows the results.

    3. The result shows the type (arrest warrant, order for arrest, criminal summons), the charge and the issuing date. It may show a bond amount if one has been set.

Step 2: CMPD arrest inquiry

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s arrest inquiry lists arrests CMPD has made. It does not list unserved warrants, but it is where a warrant shows up once it has been executed. If you are checking whether someone was picked up on a warrant, this is the tool. CMPD Arrest Inquiry

Step 3: Clerk of Superior Court

The Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court at the courthouse, 832 East Fourth Street, keeps the court file. The public terminals show pending charges, orders for arrest and scheduled dates. This is the most complete source but requires a visit.

Turning yourself in at the Mecklenburg County jail with bail already arranged

The co-signer signs a contract promising two things: to pay the premium as agreed, and to pay the full bond amount if the defendant fails to appear and the court forfeits the bond. In exchange the co-signer gets the person home. Bondsmen work hard to prevent forfeiture because it costs everyone; that is why we send reminders and check in before court dates.
